Corey Rodriguez

My name is Corey Lee Rodriguez.  I was born in San Marcos, Texas on March 21, 1998. My father Adolfo “Bobby” Jr. and mother Sandra at an early age encouraged me to get involved in extracurricular activities to explore potential career interests; sports, music, school clubs and community services.  I plan to attend the University of Houston Victoria (UHV) in Fall 2016 under the Computer Business Information Systems Program and signed on May 4, 2016 the Letter of Intent to play college golf.

I started contributing to the community at an early age by volunteering through the Junior State of America, increasing voter registration as well as reducing lack of interest by the citizens. I contribute community services through the San Marcos High School (SMHS) Key Club. I also serve as counselor at the Onion Creek Golf and the Quail Creek Golf Clubs from freshman through senior high school years.  In my sophomore through senior years, I volunteered at the San Marcos Rattler Stat’s Company as a student statistician for the San Marcos High School football, basketball and baseball teams receiving a special recognition for Outstanding Student: Rattler Stats Co.  In addition, I received an outstanding achievement –NSDA, debate 4th place University Interscholastic League (UIL) district cross examination and eight times semi-finalist debate placement UIL and have been a varsity high school golfer since sophomore through senior years. I participated in numerous junior golf tournaments with placements under the National Pan American Golf Association (National Champion 2013 & 2014 and Runner-Up for 2015), under the Southern Texas PGA Junior Golf (2012-2016) and High School UIL as well. On April 26, 2016, the San Marcos High School named me the Rattler Boy’s Most Valuable Player of the year award.

There are a lot of emotions and uncertainties about what the next year and the four years after that will bring, but I am very excited about my future.  Believing in good outcomes such as being the Hannon Scholarship 2016 recipient is only more encouraging to do everything imaginable to succeed at golf and in life.  My profound gratitude for giving me this opportunity!
